The Quality Agency for Higher Education has published an overview of the achievement of its strategic objectives for the period 2017-2023. Despite changing external circumstances and challenges, a considerable amount of work has been completed during this period, which has created a solid basis for defining more specific and further development-oriented objectives for the next strategic period. The importance of this work is also recognised by the partners, both through their representation in the Agency’s structures and through their regular feedback on the Agency’s activities.

Five strategic objectives were defined for 2017-2023:

  • To ensure that the external quality assurance system for higher education in Latvia is in line with the Standards and guidelines for quality assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG) developed by the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education.
  • To carry out external quality assessment of Latvian higher education and to contribute to the development of internal quality assurance systems of higher education institutions, study fields and programmes.
  • To ensure the financial sustainability of the Agency to carry out its mission in appropriate quality and following the agreed values.
  • To be the centre of competence for quality assurance in higher education in Latvia and to promote international recognition and credibility of Latvian higher education.
  • To contribute to the international cooperation and competitiveness of the Agency by engaging in higher education quality assessment policy-making processes, quality assessment and improvement.

The achievement of these objectives was assessed on the basis of quantitative data collected during the reporting period and feedback from staff and stakeholders, including higher education institutions and external assessment experts. For each objective, the report provides both quantitative and qualitative information highlighting the status of achievement of the objective and the challenges that need to be addressed in the future.
